About Whetstone Books
We are a small independent press rooted in community, theater, and social change — publishing from the banks of the Whetstone Brook in Brattleboro, Vermont. For hundreds of years, some of the best sharpening stones in the area have come from our headwater ledges.
Our Story
Whetstone Books was started by theater workers in Southern Vermont. We publish books that matter — books that sharpen the mind, open the heart, and give a voice to Vermont writers in the wider world.
Everything we do is some combination of theater, education, social justice, conflict transformation, cross-cultural understanding, support for artists, or mindfulness practice. (With some farming thrown in.)
We publish useful books — practical guides, plays to perform, materials for educators, facilitators, and community leaders, and social-issue fiction for readers of any age.
"Whetstone Books: sharpen your mind."
