About Whetstone Books

We are a small independent press rooted in community, theater, and social change — publishing from the banks of the Whetstone Brook in Brattleboro, Vermont. For hundreds of years, some of the best sharpening stones in the area have come from the Whetstone's headwater ledges.

Our Story

Whetstone Books was started by theater workers in Southern Vermont. We publish books that matter — books that sharpen the mind, open the heart, and give a voice to Vermont writers in the wider world.

Our books are about social justice, conflict transformation, education, cross-cultural understanding, mindfulness, and support for the arts. (With some farming thrown in.)

We publish practical guides and performable plays. We offer materials for educators, facilitators, and community leaders, and social-issue fiction for readers of any age.

"Whetstone Books: sharpen your mind."
