What We Publish
We publish books that are useful in the world. We're especially interested in youth activism around issues most important to them. We are a small press with a long history and a clear purpose: to put good books into the hands of people who need them.
A Vermont Tradition
Founded in 1982 on the banks of the Whetstone Brook in Southern Vermont, Whetstone Books grew out of a theater and arts community. Our name reflects our belief that books can be a whetstone to sharpen the mind.
Over four decades we have published titles used in schools, community organizations, and international training programs. Our authors are practitioners: educators, facilitators, artists, activists who write from lived experience, and creators of delightful, surprising fiction.
